EZLand scored high in the global real estate sustainability benchmark (GRESB) through continuous ESG commitment

EZLand Vietnam, an EDGE Champion, has partaken in the global real estate sustainability benchmark (GRESB) since 2020. In the third time of participation, the Vietnam-based real estate developer successfully scored 89/100 points and ranked highly in its categories of real estate development.

EZLand is a real estate company founded in 2014 with the aim to fill in the gap in high-quality and affordable housing for the growing middle-class population in Vietnam. Guided by responsible investing and corporate citizenship strategy principles, the company has made constant efforts to contribute to building a sustainable, environmentally-conscious real estate market in Vietnam by reducing the environmental footprint of its portfolio while creating positive, long-lasting impacts on the people and society.

Despite the economy being severely affected by the global pandemic, Vietnam was one of only a few countries to post positive GDP growth during the 2020-2021 period. In the post-Covid era, Vietnam's economy shows strong signs of recovery with US$15.43 billion of implemented FDI and a GDP growth of 8.83% in the first 9 months of 2022. At the same time, Covid-19 has been a wake-up call to the for-profit sector to see beyond traditional profitability and take into account non-financial factors including E (environmental), S (Social), and G (Governance). On a global level, ESG is on its way to becoming mandatory in the regulations of developed markets like the EU or the US, while in emerging markets like Vietnam, ESG and sustainability are still rather new concepts that have only been put into practice by a small number of large enterprises.

As a locally-based company that pursues international standards of quality, since the development of its very first project, EZLand has embedded environmental and health consciousness in the design and development of all housing products. The company has committed 100% of its portfolio to be EDGE-certified and was awarded an EDGE Champion in 2019 before taking part in the global real estate sustainability benchmark (GRESB) in 2020 and becoming a signatory to the UN’s Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI) in 2021. GRESB is a globally recognized framework widely used by both asset managers and investors as a reliable reference for companies’ ESG performance. In the third participation time in 2022 for the reporting year 2021, EZLand has scored 89/100 points, a considerable improvement compared to the previous year with 80/100 points; rated ⅘ stars and ranked 2nd in the category of Asian non-listed developers of multi-family high-rise residential.

Green building commitment and GRESB participation are among EZLand’s manifestations of constant efforts to become a responsible and sustainable real estate developer. The company’s next goal is to implement and integrate the ESG strategy, which covers 10/17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, into the business culture and inspires fellow Vietnamese businesses to rethink their duty to the people, environment and society.
