Experts agree that climate change hits Asia the hardest, with extreme rainfall has led to massive flooding in many parts across the region. In Vietnam’s biggest motropolis Ho Chi Minh City, flooding is a common part of life.
A report by McKinsey estimates that regular flooding costs Ho Chi Minh City about 2% of its GDP annually, and the current cost of flood damage to infrastructure could be up to 300 million USD. Rapid urbanisation adds to flood risks as spatial planning and building safety standards fail to keep up.
